Short Story on Saint Hedwig

Saint Hedwig of Silesia (1174–1243), also known as Saint Hedwig of Andechs, was a duchess and a highly venerated saint in central Europe, especially in Poland, Germany, and Silesia (part of modern-day Poland). She dedicated her life to charity, supporting the poor, building hospitals, and promoting Christian faith. She is known for her humility and care for the underprivileged, often depicted as a symbol of compassion and service.

The reason why inscriptions are in Spannish; Saint Hedwig does not have a direct historical link to Spain. However, during certain periods, her veneration spread beyond her primary regions due to the influence of Catholic missionaries and religious orders, like the Cistercians and Franciscans, who might have introduced her devotion in Spain. It is possible that this medal was produced for Spanish-speaking devotees in a religious community that revered her as a model of piety, or it might have been commissioned by a Spanish collector with a special interest in European saints.

Short Story on Aluminium in Medal Crafting

In the past, aluminium was more precious than silver or gold due to its rarity and the complexity of its extraction process. Early aluminium medals were highly valued for their sheen and durability. This medal represents an era when aluminium was appreciated as a luxurious material, adding a special historical charm to this unique piece.
