This exquisite vintage silver-plated medal, often referred to as the “Miraculous Medal,” is an iconic symbol of devotion to the Virgin Mary. The front side of the medal features the Blessed Virgin Mary standing on a globe with rays of light emanating from her hands, accompanied by the inscription in French: “O MARIE CONÇUE SANS PÉCHÉ PRIEZ POUR NOUS QUI AVONS RECOURS À VOUS” (“O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you”). Beneath the figure, the year 1830 commemorates the apparition to Saint Catherine Labouré.
The reverse side depicts the intertwined “M” and cross symbolizing Mary and Christ’s unity. The Sacred and Immaculate Hearts appear beneath, surrounded by 12 stars, representing the apostles and the Church. The medal measures 36 mm (1.42 inches) in total height, including the bail.
