This exquisite vintage silver-plated medal is dedicated to Saint Benedict, measuring 18 mm in diameter (0.71 inches). Known as the patron saint of Europe and founder of Western monasticism, Saint Benedict is revered for his Rule and his role in fostering Christian spirituality and discipline.

On the obverse, the medal portrays Saint Benedict holding a cross and the Rule of Saint Benedict, with an inscription in Latin: “Ejus in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur,” which translates to “May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death.” Surrounding the depiction are symbols representing Benedictine values of faith and spiritual protection.

The reverse features the traditional Benedictine Medal cross with the initials:

  • “C.S.S.M.L.” – Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti (The Cross of Our Holy Father Benedict)
