Beautiful antique medal both of devotion and of history. On the 8th of December 1854, Pope Pius IX proclaimed the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. Which states that Holy Mary was conceived free of the ancestral sin that lays within humanity since the banning of Adam and Eve out of Eden. Christian traditions say that Holy Mary’s Immaculate Conception arose when her parents, Anna and Joachim, met at the Golden Gate of Jerusalem. The iconography of the Virgin Mary was conceptualized by Francisco Pacheco in 1649, as a young maiden wearing a white robe and blue coat, rays of light radiating from the 12 stars ring hallowing her head and coronated by a majestic crown. Having the sun behind her and the moon beneath. Very charismatic and strong antique medal of devotion to Holy Mary.
