This gorgeous antique religious artifact represents the Holy Mary with Infant Jesus. A more common name to this depiction is The Madonna and child. Intimate Marian imagery of the Virgin trapped in a soft robe and wich radiate pure mother love. Flanked in the above corners by cherub angels. Orthodox traditions say that the origin of Marian images is a portrait of Mary sketched in reel life by the evangelist Luke himself. This original image is called Panagia Portaitissa. It is said to be wonderworking to people praying before the image. Graces were received and miracles lavished. In the Catholic traditions, renaissance artists, such as Duccio, Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, … influenced their style into the Marian iconography. This artifact has more of western design.
