Description

This antique medal, measuring 32 mm in diameter (1.26 inches), is a remarkable example of religious craftsmanship. Crafted in bronze with a rich, aged patina, it features Saint Anthony of Padua on the obverse side, holding the infant Jesus in a tender embrace, accompanied by the French inscription “S. ANT. DE PADOUÉ PRIEZ POUR NOUS” (Saint Anthony of Padua, Pray for Us). The reverse side portrays the Immaculate Virgin Mary, surrounded by the inscription “O MARIE CONCUE SANS PECHE PRIEZ POUR NOUS” (O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us).

The medal is signed by Ludovic Penin, a renowned 19th-century French engraver from Lyon, known for his exquisite religious medal designs. His signature, “L. PENIN,” is etched on the reverse side near the Virgin Mary figure.
