Saint Damian of Molokai, born Jozef De Veuster in Belgium, is a Catholic saint celebrated for his missionary work in Hawaii. In 1873, he volunteered to serve a leper colony on Molokai, dedicating his life to their physical and spiritual care. Known for his compassion and courage, Damian contracted leprosy himself and continued his work until his death in 1889. He was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009 and remains a symbol of selfless service to the marginalized.
